Acorus calamus

Calamus Root (Acorus calamus)

Acorus calamus, also known as Sweet Flag, has been traditionally used by natives of North America for medicinal purposes, as well as a snuff. It was used as an anesthetic for toothache and headaches, and in mild doses was commonly used as a stimulant to combat fatigue. Calamus root has also  commonly been chewed, smoked, or used to flavor beverages because of it's aromatic qualities.
